Bryan Norcross is an American actor, television host, and television personality. He is best known for hosting the children’s television network Nickelodeon’s afternoon program Nick Jr. Live. He also appeared in the short-lived series The Adventures of Pete & Pete as Mark Heap, and in the television series The Adventures of Pete & Pete and The Adventures of Pete & Pete. He was the host of MTV’s The Grind and VH1’s Best Week Ever.
Biography of Brian Norcross
Brian Norcross is a renowned television meteorologist and hurricane expert in the United States. He has worked for WPLG-TV Channel 10 in Miami, Florida, an ABC employee for 26 years. February 2018, he is also a hurricane specialist at The Weather Channel in Atlanta.
Before joining WPLG-TV, Norcross was chief meteorologist at WTVJ-TV (an NBC television station in Miami, Florida), where he became best known for his involvement in covering Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Norcross then became director of meteorology at WFOR-TV, a Miami television station owned by CBS, and hurricane analyst at CBS News in New York.
From 1996 to 2007, Brian was often featured on the CBS news program during hurricane season. In June 2008, however, Brian decided not to renew his contract with WFOR in order to devote more time to America’s Emergency Network, a private company he co-founded with Max Mayfield, former director of the National Hurricane Center. Norcross is a native of Miami Beach and has lived most of his life in Florida.

Norcross began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey at WTAI, an AM station in Melbourne, Florida, in 1968 and 1969. While studying in Tallahassee, Florida, he worked at radio stations WTAL-AM and WFSU-FM.
He also began working in television as an engineer at WFSU-TV in Tallahassee, Florida, while still in college. After graduating in 1972, he went to work for WXIA-TV (then WQXI-TV) in Atlanta, where he was a maintenance engineer/technical manager. In 1974, Norcross was promoted to assistant production manager. In 1975, he transferred to KUSA-TV (then KBTV) in Denver as program director for the evening news. In addition, Norcross was hired in 1976 to produce the 10 p.m. newscast, which became the most watched newscast in the market.
In 1977, Norcross was promoted to news director at WLKY-TV in Louisville. During a trip to Louisville in January 1978, he was caught in a severe snowstorm while looking for a home. Norcross was the only presenter who managed to reach the station and broadcast live at night with the help of two technicians. It gave the city the only television coverage of the storm. In 1979, Brian returned to Florida State University to earn a master’s degree.

After earning his master’s degree in 1980, he became CNN’s first weekend meteorologist and signed a contract the same year. That same year, Norcross went to work for KGO-TV in San Francisco covering weather on weekends and science stories during the week.
In addition, Brian returned to Atlanta in 1981 to oversee another of Ted Turner’s favorite projects as executive producer of documentaries and magazines at WTBS. At the same time, he worked as a weekend meteorologist for WXIA-TV. In 1983, he moved to Miami, where he worked as a weekend meteorologist for WPLG, an ABC affiliate. Similarly, Norcross moved to the 5:30 news in 1984, where he developed a concept that became known as Neighborhood Weather, in which the weather was broadcast live every day.
Norcross moved to NBC’s WTVJ in 1990 as chief meteorologist, where he became known for his coverage of Hurricane Andrew. He joined WFOR in 1996 as Director of Meteorology. In 2006, he quit his job as a weatherman to focus on hurricanes and emergency communications.
Norcross has worked as a hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel since 2010. He was also senior executive director for weather content and presentations at The Weather Channel from 2011 to 2013; in 2012, he led the winter storm naming initiative. Since February 2018, Brian has worked as a hurricane expert for WPLG-TV, the ABC affiliate in Miami, where he began as a Miami TV anchor in 1983.
Bryan Norcross Award
Norcross was appointed by Bill Nelson, Florida Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner, as an expert advisor to the university’s task force on catastrophe insurance for hurricanes, and by Governor Lawton Chiles to serve on the Governor’s committee to evaluate the state’s response and recommend changes to the state’s emergency system.
In recognition of his work before, during and after the hurricane, Andrew Norcross received the David Brinkley Award for Excellence in Communications in 1993. This day has also received public recognition and has been declared Brian Norcross Day in Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale, among other cities. He is also an Emmy Award winner for the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and led the team that won the DuPont and Peabody Awards for coverage of Hurricane Andrew on WTVJ.
Bryan was named chairman emeritus of the South Florida Hurricane Warning Museum project in Deerfield Beach. He also recently joined the board of directors of the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami Beach, which is managed by Florida International University.
