Jesse Williams Scores New TV Role After Grey’s Anatomy

Jesse Williams has landed a major part in a new television series, but we haven’t heard much about the show yet. Does it have a title, a premise, a plot? Well, we can tell you it’s a drama. It’s set in Nantucket, Massachusetts, and it revolves around a group of women who work together to keep their first-rate Nantucket restaurant afloat.

Grey’s Anatomy fans were stunned a few weeks ago by the sudden dismissal of Naya Rivera and her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, after she was arrested and charged with drug possession. Now, that backlash has turned to celebration over the news that Naya Rivera will return to the show as her character’s replacement.

Grey’s Anatomy may have lost another character to another show, but don’t worry, the cast is as tight as ever. And while the show is currently in its “Grey’s Anatomy: Being Human” series, the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes has promised “The Wedding” will return for one last hurrah.. (730 x 566) (730 x 517)Jesse Williams of Grey’s Anatomy will be mixing things up a little in the future, transitioning from a theatrical role to the small screen. He’ll be leaving the hospital for a job as a baseball player for his on-screen character’s shift.

He’ll star in the short series Take Me Out, which is based on Richard Greenberg’s Tony Award-winning Broadway play on homophobia in baseball.

Jesse Williams is cast as the lead in Richard Greenberg’s play.

Jesse Williams is best recognized for his 12-year role as Dr. Jackson Avery on the ABC medical program Grey’s Anatomy. The 40-year-old actor has been hired in the short series Take Me Out as a homosexual multiracial baseball player, according to Deadline.

Take Me Out is a film set in the early 2000s that tells the tale of Darren Lemming, a mixed-race baseball player. When Darren, who plays center field for the fictitious Empires, publicly announces that he is homosexual, he faces opposition from some of his teammates.

Jesse’s persona On and off the field, Darren will have to deal with the prejudice that comes with being a homosexual person of color in baseball. As the Empire prepares for championship season, it must assess itself and realize that it is comprised of a collection of players that rely on loyalty and cooperation to succeed.

Next Spring, the Grey’s Anatomy star will also take on the role on stage.

Greenberg, an award-winning playwright, will adapt his work for television, with Broadway director Scott Ellis, whose credits include Modern Family and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, set to direct the pilot.

The Tony Award-winning drama, which was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, will have a Broadway revival in spring 2024, with Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson slated to star.

Jesse Williams, who is best known for his role as Joe Ryan in Little Fires Everywhere, expressed his excitement to portray Darren in the forthcoming limited series.

“Richard’s work raises crucial and apparently limitless issues and problems, cutting to the heart of ‘masculinity marketing,’” he added. “What exactly are we when our serenity is so readily endangered by the tranquility of others?”

“We are thrilled to bring this powerful story from stage to screen, as it delves headfirst into issues that are still so salient, and given it’s set in the world of major league baseball, it’s a great study in sport and character,” said David Levine, Chief Creative Officer of Anonymous Content, the studio behind the adaptation.

“There was never any doubt that Richard should adapt his play for television,” Levine said. “We believe the series will connect with a broad cross-section of viewers, thanks to his writing and such an amazing team in place, many of whom are also bringing this show back to the stage.”
