Real Madrid forward Luka Doncic is currently playing in the Euroleague Final Four with Real Madrid, one of the most prestigious and professional basketball teams in the world. Luka, in case you don’t know, is the son of former NBA player Zarko Doncic, better known as Captain Jack. In the past, Luka has dated popular models and supermodels, but as of today he is dating a mysterious girl who is confirmed to be Anamaria Goltes, a former model.
I don’t know much about Luka Doncic, except that he is a Slovenian international basketball player who plays for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA. He has been dating Anamaria Goltes since 2017.
While fall is a great time to enjoy a good book and tea, you can diversify your yoga practice this year with something other than turmeric and the fallen angel pose. This is a modern variation that adds some height to Eka Pada Kauntignasana I.
The fallen angel is the arm balance with a twist (of the navel). A fun and entertaining addition to any exercise. This pose is ideal after warming up the body with 3-5 sets of Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A) and 3-5 sets of Surya Namaskar B (Sun Salutation B).
Preparatory steps
1. Opening the spine in Ardha Matsyendrasana
Fallen Angel requires a lot of strength in the arms, legs and torso, it is a full body workout. Regardless of strength, it is impossible to throw a fallen angel if the back of the body is too tight for the upper arm to turn and make contact with the opposite thigh.
Ardha Matsyendrasana is an ideal posture to open the back of the body, as well as the shoulders, hips and neck.
2. Bakasana and Parsva Bakasana balancing act

Fallen Angel is mainly about hand balance, and it is suggested that the head and neck be given little or no input. So you need to strengthen your core and arms to stay comfortable in this position.
Bakasana or Crow Pose is a useful preparatory pose because it strengthens the arms, wrists, upper back and core, helping you to descend smoothly rather than falling into the Caught Angel Pose. Parsva Bakasana or Silk Crow (pictured above) is the next step to train and play with balance.
3. Train your brain in Eka Pada Kauntinjasana I
Visually, it is clear that Fallen Angel is very similar to Eka Pada Kauntiyasana I. Physically, both postures require similar involvement of the muscles and mobility of the joints. Therefore, performing Eka Pada Kauntinjasana I helps the body prepare to perform Fallen Angel without exposing the head and neck to the danger of falling.
A step-by-step guide to laying the fallen angel
1. Build a foundation by leaning on your toes.
Squat down with your legs up and gently spread both arms. The arms should be slightly wider than hip-width apart. A good rule of thumb for hand placement is: Imagine where they feel comfortable in Chaturanga Dandasana or Bakasana – that’s where they will fit you well in Fallen Angel.
Now slowly tilt your shoulders over your wrists so that your shoulders are in line with your elbows. Keep your toes on or near the ground – this is the time to play with opening the sides of your body in a twist around the navel area. Drishti (gaze) can be in the same direction as the knees or forward.
2. Parsva Bakasana Val
As your feet slowly leave the ground, your body sways and your head sinks into the ground. The faster the legs go up, the faster the head goes down. Therefore, it is important to control the trunk and legs in order to consciously stand upright and protect the head and neck.
When the legs embrace each other, there is more control during the lift, and the hips and legs can move at the same time and speed. The arms will carry most of the weight, allowing the head to rest slightly as a point of balance instead of carrying the weight. Keep your hands together so that your elbows are above your wrists.
3. Fallen Angel
As for complexity, if you have completed step 2, most of the work is already done. The base is in the hand and your core is working to maintain ease. The final movement is the thigh lift. When you turn to the right, lift your left leg and vice versa.
Message: If lifting the leg causes pressure on the head and/or neck, it is safer to lay the leg down and perform steps 1 or 2 until there is sufficient trunk and arm strength to lift the leg without applying pressure to the head.
The toes can be pointed or curved; the important thing is that they are used, lifting the energy upward and defying gravity as the body is released into the Fallen Angel. You made it, enjoy the free fall.
The Fallen Angel is one of thousands of fun new poses that have been created by the widespread popularity and practice of yoga asanas. Do you have any tips or feedback on Fallen Angel or variations of yoga poses you’d like to try? Feel free to comment below!
