Winter is coming! You can do so many fun winter activities with your Cavapoo during the wintertime! However, Cavapoos have thinner coats than other dog breeds, so they get cold easier. Size is also something you should consider, Cavapoo full grown size is still on the smaller side when it comes to dogs so you will want to ensure they are safe when outside. Here are some tips to ensure your Cavapoo is warm this winter season.

Keeping Your Home Warm

Your Cavapoo will get cold faster than other dogs, but this does not mean you have to spend a lot of money keeping your house warm. Whatever temperature is comfortable for you in your home will also be comfortable for your Cavapoo. So this is something you don’t have to worry about too much this winter.

Warm Outside

If you are taking your dog out to use the bathroom, you don’t need to think about keeping them warm as it is just a few minutes, and they will warm up quickly in the house. However, if you plan to go out for longer, you will need to help your Cavapoo stay warm.

You can try to help your Cavapoo stay warm by putting them in a dog jumper or sweater to keep them warm. You will need to watch and make sure the jumper you choose is made to keep puppies warm because some are just made to make your Cavapoo look stylish, and others will help your Cavapoo maintain their body temperature.

Also, if wearing warm gear is new to your Cavapoo, let them try it out first and get used to the feeling before you head out to play in the snow.

Cavapoo Friendly Activities

Many people with bigger dogs will go sledding with their dog, and people with smaller dogs will usually question if bringing their dog is a good idea. The answer is, you should bring them sometimes.

If you go to your local park and go sledding, your Cavapoo will love it. You can even take them down some small hills on your lap. Or, if sledding doesn’t sound appealing to your Cavapoo, you can let them play in the snow and maybe make a snowman with them.

But, if you go to a park with bigger hills that are busier with people, your dog will do better at home with a family member or a dog sitter.

Is Your Cavapoo Cold?

Whenever you take your Cavapoo out in cold weather, you need to watch your Cavapoo for signs that it’s cold. This could be things like shivering or being cold to the touch (usually on the paws and ears). A less obvious sign is if your dog stops in their tracks and loses interest in what you are doing. Or if your dog goes a little stiff, this could mean they are getting too cold.

If you worry about whether you’ll be able to notice these signs or not, you can also bring along a thermometer. The normal body temperature for a dog is around 101 – 102 degrees Fahrenheit. And if their temperature is below 99 degrees Fahrenheit, you should take them to the vet as this is dangerous. To help you know how dangerous this is, a dog can get hypothermia if its temperature ever gets below 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

As long as you follow these tips, you and your dog will have a fun, memorable winter season this year.
